Belgium: WW2 Commemorative Medal for the
Campaign in Africa (African War Medal), 1940-
1945.
With "Madagascar" Clasp.
Signed by the sculptor Arthur Dupagne.
The medal was established in 1947 and was
awarded to the personnel of the Belgian Armed
Forces who served in Africa for at least 1 year,
between 1940 - 1945.
The Belgian forces besides defending the Belgian
Colonies of Congo or Ruanda/Urundi served also
in Madagascar, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Libya, Egypt,
Sudan and Palestine.
The Madagascar clasp was awarded to the 10th
Casualty Clearing Station (10 CCS) - a medical
unit from the Belgian Congo who served along-
side the British forces during the invasion of
the French Vichy Government controlled island
of Madagascar (5 May 1942 – 6 Nov. 1942).
Note that the strength of the 10 CCS was just
370 personnel so this is a very scarce bar.
