BELGIUM: WW2 Commemorative Medal for the
Ethiopian Campaign 1940 - 1941 (or East African
Campaign) with clasp "Abyssinie" (Ethiopia).
The medal was awarded to combatants of the
Belgian Forces of Congo (Force Publique) who
took part for at least 1 year in the East African
Campaign during the period 6 Mar. 1940 to 3 Jul. 1
941.
The clasp "Abyssinie" was awarded to combatants
who fought in Ethiopia against the Italian African
Colonial Troops (battles of Saio, Gambela and
Asosa - as on the reverse of the medal).
Signed by Arthur Dupagne.
The medal was instituted in 1947 and it is very
rare, as the Belgian forces that participated in
the campaign were no more than 3000 men and
less than 500 medals were awarded.
The clasp was awarded to even less.
A genuine example of a heavily copied medal.
