Belgium: Order of the Belgian Crown, Silver Palms 
(2nd Class).
Instituted in 1897 and awarded for meritorious civil 
or military service to the Belgian State. 
Originally created for services in the Belgian 
Congo, the Order later became a national 
distinction. 
The Palms and Medals are awarded to lower-
ranking military and civilian personnel for 
meritorious service and in contrary to the French 
Academic Palms they are not academic awards.
