The Order was instituted in 1900, initially as
an award for exceptional military and civilian
services to the Belgian Congo. In 1908 the
Order became officially a Belgian Order as
well, awarded for exceptional civil or military
services to both Belgium or the Belgian
Colony of Congo.
This is the bilingual version of the Cross that
was issued since 1952.
