Great Britain: King Edward VII Medal of the London
County Council for Punctual Attendance.
Example of the Year 1907-08 with bar 1908.
Gilt example for the 8th award.
Attributed.
The medal retains its original gilt finish but only
the letters "P" and "F" of the recipient's name
are legible.
The medal was instituted in 1887 by Queen Victoria.
The first medal featuring King Edward was awarded
in 1902 and it was amended to this form with the
inscription "...DURING THE YEAR..." in 1906.
It was awarded to school students who managed to
attend school every time the school was opened
during a complete school year. In addition to 100%
attendance record the pupil had to achieve above
standard grades and certified good conduct
during the school year in question.
While initially no absence was tolerated for the
award, student absence due to certified illness
was eliminated as disqualification reason since
1907.
A total of 10 grades of the medal were introduced
to be awarded for each subsequent year of
spotless attendance record but in 1908 the medals
for the 10th and 11th year were eliminated and the
awards for the 8th and 9th year became similar to
the one for the 7th but were produced in silver.
This is the Gilt Medal with 1908 Gilt Clasp - this
grade of the medal marks the 8th award of the
medal to the same recipient and is extremely rare.
Note that the year 1908 was the last time that
the eight-year-medal was awarded in this form.
