Great Britain: King Edward VII Medal of the London
County Council for Punctual Attendance.
Example of the Year 1909-10 with bar 1910, in white
metal with bronze bar, indicating a 2nd award.
Attributed to V. PAGE.
The medal was instituted in 1887 by Queen Victoria.
The first medal featuring King Edward was awarded
in 1902, the inscription "...DURING THE YEAR..."
was introduced in 1906 while it was redesigned to
the form of this example in 1910.
It was awarded to school students who managed to
attend school every time the school was opened
during a complete school year. In addition to 100%
attendance record the pupil had to achieve above
standard grades and certified good conduct
during the school year in question.
While initially no absence was tolerated for the
award, student absence due to certified illness
was eliminated as disqualification reason since
1907.
A total of 10 grades of the medal were introduced
to be awarded for each subsequent year of
spotless attendance record but in 1908 the medals
for the 10th and 11th year were eliminated and the
awards for the 8th and 9th year became similar to
the one for the 7th but were produced in silver.
