The King's South Africa Medal was instituted 
in 1902 by King Edward VII to replace the Queen’s 
South Africa Medal, following the death of Queen 
Victoria on 22 Jan. 1901.
The medal was awarded to all British and Colonial 
military personnel who served in South Africa 
during the 2nd Boer War and were present in the 
theater on or after 1 Jan. 1902 and who had 
completed 18 months of service in the conflict 
prior to 1 Jun. 1902.
The clasps:
The "SOUTH AFRICA 1901" clasp was awarded to 
all troops who served in South Africa between 01 
Jan. 1901 and 31 Dec. 1901 inclusive.
The "SOUTH AFRICA 1902" clasp was awarded to 
all troops who served in South Africa between 01 
Jan. 1902 and 31 Dec. 1902 inclusive.
