During WW1 2nd Lt. Dancaster served initially as 
Able Seaman of the RNVR (Royal Naval Volunteer 
Reserves) and later on as an Officer of the RA 
(Royal Artillery). 
Medals to officers are rarely seen and a medal
awarded to a seaman and artillery officer is
indeed an unusual find.
