Kingdom of Bulgaria: Royal Badge of Merit of the
Bulgarian Red Cross, 1st type, King Ferdinand I
issue.
The Bulgarian Red Cross Society was established
in 1887 and was very active in assisting the war
wounded with medical trains and field hospitals
in both Balkan Wars (1912-1913) and WWI.
The badge was awarded to Bulgarians and
foreign citizens for meritorious services to the
Bulgarian Red Cross, in war time.
During WWI several awards to Austrians,
Hungarians and Germans were recorded.
A hard to find badge in excellent condition (no
enamel damages, the white spots one the photos
are just light reflections).
