Issue of King Ferdinand I (1889-1918).
This is a luxurious Austrian made silver example,
hallmarked with the old Austrian silver mark
(Athena's head) and maker marked "KF".
Obverse: The Bulgarian crowned lion rampant.
Reverse: The Royal Cipher of Ferdinand I
circumscribed "ОТЛИЧНА СЛУЖБА"
(Outstanding Service) and the symbol (X) for 10
Years.
The Royal Medal for Long Service in the Army
was instituted in 1889 to be awarded to officers,
non commissioned officers (NCOs) and other
ranks who had served in the Bulgarian Army for
minimum 10 years with diligence and exemplary
conduct.
The silver cross as of this example was awarded
to officers while a similar cross in bronze was
awarded to NCOs and other ranks.
The medal was awarded in this form during the
period of King Ferdinand I (1889-1918).
