Czechoslovakia : WW2 Czech Scouts Cross,
1939 - 1945 "For the Homeland", Silver (2nd)
Class.
The medal was instituted in 1946 to be awarded
to the members of the Czech Scouts, who were
already recipients of the WW2 War Cross and
had been involved in domestic intelligence
organizations (domestic Resistance Network)
during the Nazi Occupation or had fought
during the Prague Uprising (May 1945).
Three classes were instituted:
-Gold (1st) Class - for those who lost their lives.
-Silver (2nd Class) for those that were seriously
wounded and
-Bronze (3rd) class.
The Cross was awarded in 2 ceremonies on 05
May and 28 Oct. 1946.
The Czech Scouting Organization was founded
in 1911 and played a key role in helping the
establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic in
1918.
The Organization had about 70.000 members
just before the outbreak of WW2.
Following the Nazi Occupation of the Organiza-
tion was abolished by force and Scouting was
banned by the German authorities (Oct. 1940).
Many Scouts joined the Czech Resistance and
over 700 of them died during WW2 as part of
the movement.
The Cross is one of the rarest Czech medals.
