Czechoslovakia: WW1 War Cross - or War
Cross of 1918 - with rare linden leaves citation
(unit citation at the level of the Army).
The Cross was instituted in 1918 and was
awarded for military valor during WW1.
It was issued to Czechoslovak citizens and
also, upon application, to citizens of Germany
and Austria who had served, with distinction
and bravery, as volunteers, with the Czech
Revolutionary Army and to members of the
Allied forces who fought alongside the
Czechoslovak Army during the Great War.
At a later stage the award criteria was
extended to include the border conflicts
with Poland and Hungary.
Czechoslovakia became an independent state
after the end of WW1 - until then it was part of
the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
