Czechoslovakia WWII Czechoslovak Army Abroad Medal 1939 1945 with Clasp SSSR (USSR)

Czechoslovakia: WW2 Commemorative medal for 
the Czechoslovak Army Abroad with rare clasp 
"SSSR" (USSR - Soviet Union). Dated 1939-1945.
The "SSSR" bar was awarded to the men of the 
1st Czechoslovak Corps under General Svoboda, 
who fought on the Eastern Front.
The medal was instituted by the Czechoslovak 
Government in exile (in London), in 1943, and 
was awarded to Czechoslovak Citizens who 
joined Allied forces or the Czechoslovak Units 
that were formed abroad following the German
invasion of Czechoslovakia. 
A large number of Czechoslovaks who managed 
to escape from their occupied country or were 
already abroad during the NAZI invasion, joined 
Allied Units or enlisted into Czechoslovak Units 
that were formed abroad by the Government in 
Exile. 
The Czech pilots who had joined the RAF fought 
in the Battle of Britain in 1940. Similarly the 1st 
Czechoslovak Corps under General Svoboda, 
fought alongside the Red Army on the Eastern 
Front, while the 1st Czechoslovak Independent 
Armored Brigade Group landed in Normandy in 
1944. 
Additionally, 3 Czech Air Squadrons (311 Fighter 
Squadron, 312  Fighter Squadron and 60 Night  
Fighter Squadron) served with the RAF in 
Europe,while the Czechoslovak 11th Infantry 
Battalion-East saw action in the Mediterranean 
and the Middle East (Syria-Lebanon campaign, 
Siege of Tobruk).
