27 1949".
Reverse: The initials HSI within the Holy
Trinity symbol. Circumscribed in Amharic
"Ethiopia Stretches Her Hands Towards
God".
The medal was instituted May 5, 1957 (Miyazya
27, 1949 in the Ethiopian calendar).
The 1st class was awarded for the highest acts
of merit and exceptional service.
The medal was suppressed by the Derg regime
in 1974.
