Ethiopia: Order of of Emperor Menelik II, Grand 
Cross Star.
Also known as "The Order of the Lion of Judah" 
and "The Order of the Ethiopian Lion".
The Order was established in 5 Classes, in 1924, 
during the reign of Empress Zewditu I, by then-
Regent Tafari Makonnen (later Emperor Haile 
Selassie). It was intended to honor the memory 
of Emperor Menelik II and was awarded for 
military and civil services to Ethiopia. 
Early, unmarked example of the 1930s by 
Arthus Bertrand, Paris.
The senior classes of the Order are scarce.
