FINLAND: Commemorative Medal for the 20th
Anniversary of the Liberation of Helsinki.
The boat on the obverse side of the medal is
the emblem of the city of Helsinki, while the
crown in the National mark of Finland.
The medal was issued in 1938 to the surviving
Veterans of the "White Finns" who liberated
the city of Helsinki from the Bolsheviks in 1918.
Until 1917, when Finland delared its indepen-
dence, the country was a part of the Russian
Empire.
Following the Bolshevik Revolution and the
hostilities between the "White" and "Red"
Russians, "Red" elements seized the City of
Helsinki in Jan. 1918.
The city was liberated in Apr 1918.
