FINLAND: Finnish Red Cross Silver Medal of
Merit.
On the obverse: "Inter Arma Caritas " (Latin:
Mercy/Charity in Times of War)
On the reverse: "Finnish Red Cross" in Finnish
and Swedish.
Maker marked "T in Triangle" (for Alexander
Tillander's mark since 1946), hallmarked "813H"
for silver purity and dated "Y6" (1952).
Marked with the crown (National silver mark),
and the "Boat Mark" (for Helsinki).
The Finnish Red Cross was established in 1877
in order to provide relief to the sick and wounded
members of the Finnish Guard during/following
the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878.
The Red Cross decorations were instituted in
1931 and were awarded for meritorious service.
This is an early scarce example of the pre WW2
period.
The medal is rare.
