FRANCE: Badge of the I/19 Bombardment Group
"Gascogne", of the French Air Force (Armée de
l'Air) during the Indochina War.

The unit was initially instituted in 1937 as II/19
Bombardment Group, participated in WW2 and
was dissolved in 1946.
It was reformed in Jan. 1951 as I/19 Bombardment
Group "Gascogne". It was equipped with Douglas
B-26 Invader planes (twin-engine light bomber and
ground attack aircraft) and was based at Da Nang
(at the time named Tourane) under the command
of Air Force General Rene Chesnais.
During the operations in Indochina it participated
in the Battle of Dien Bien Phu.
The Group was dissolved at Tourane in Nov. 1955
following the the end of the Indochina War.
During the campaign the Group flew more than
21.000 hours, dropped nearly 13.000 tons of
bombs and lost 9 planes.
The badge is rare.
