Order of the Dragon of Annam, Officer's Star.
In it luxurious velvet box of issue.
The Order was instituted in 1886, by Dong-Khanh,
Emperor of Vietnam, in 5 classes. It was awarded
for exceptional services of both military and civil
nature. It became a French Colonial Order in 1896
and was awarded ever since jointly by the Emperor
and the French President for services to France,
the French colonial government, or the Emperor
and also to French citizens who meritoriously
served in Indochina for a minimum of 10 years.
The award of the Officer's Star required a minimum
staying of 8 years at the grade of the Knight.
The last award was recorded in 1945 and the Order
was officially discontinued in 1950.
This is a WW1 era silver example (hallmarked with
the boar's head on the reverse of the 12 o'clock
ray), with ribbon that denotes award by the French
President.
