FRANCE: Medal for the Operations in the Middle
East in 1956 (The French - British operation in
Egypt, which included the attacks on Suez and
Port Said).
With the "Moyen Orient " (Middle East) clasp.
The medal was instituted in 1957.
Eligible for the award were the members of the
French Armed Forces under the command of
Admiral Barjot and General Beauffre and the
civilians (including the crews of merchant ships
and civilian airliners) who participated in the
operation (roughly 10.000 in total).
The medal was not issued with a certificate but
instead the right to the award is justified by the
possession of a military document confirming
participation in the operations between 1 Sep.
1956 and 22 Dec. 1956.
A rare medal, hallmarked/maker marked by the
Paris Mint.
