France: National Defense Medal, Gold (gilt) grade,
with 2 bars "Infantry" and "Overseas Assistance
Mission".
The National Defense Medal was created in 1982,
in 3 grades (Bronze, Silver, Gold).
It rewards particularly honorable service rendered
by military personnel for their participation in
operational activities.
The qualification for the award of the medal is
linked to both time service criteria as well as to
personal achievements that are recorded as
points.
For the gold class, the minimum requirements
are 10 years of service (minimum 2 years in the
Silver grade) and 800 personal points.
The medal can be awarded to both French and
Foreign citizens.
Civilians can also qualify for the award under
certain circumstances (killed or injured in the
line of duty or for honorable services particularly
important to the defense of France)
