France Overseas Medal with Bar Mauritanie

FRANCE: Overseas Commemorative Medal, 
with clasp "Mauritania".
The clasp had been instituted in 1979 and 
was awarded for operations in Mauritania 
during the period 1977 to 1990.
The Colonial medal was established in 1893.  
The Overseas Medal replaced the Colonial 
medal in 1962. 
It is awarded to military personnel who 
operated overseas, usually in the former 
French colonies and protectorates. The areas 
of service are indicated by a gilt campaign 
clasp. Currently there are 13 such clasps 
established.
