FRANCE: Patriotic inkwell - desk weight in the
form of the famous WW1 French SPAD S. XIII
Biplane Fighter Aircraft.
With a dedication sign on it that links it to the
famous Escadrille 3 (Squadron Nr. 3) "Les
Cigognes" ("The Storks").
Escadrille 3 was formed in July 1912.
During the Great War it operated with Bleriots,
Morane-Saulniers, Nieuport Scouts and SPADS.
The famous French ace Captain Georges
Guynemer (54 victories) flew with Escadrille 3
and also served shortly as its Commanding
Officer (29 Jun. – 5 Aug. 1917).
This set is consisted of the SPAD S. XIII aircraft
model and its base which hides the inkwell.
The diorama is maker marked underneath the
base by Richer, Paris.
Typical and representative item of the Interwar
period. Such inkwells were usually given as a
farewell gift to a departing officer of the Unit.
