FRANCE: France: WW1 Cross for Civic Services.
This rare French medal was established in 1937
by La Reconnaissance Nationale Française
(LNRF) to honor exceptional acts of devotion
and humanitarian aid during World War I.
Awarded to both civilians and military personnel
—French and foreign—who helped the wounded,
supported refugees, or assisted their families.
The cross is signed by noted engraver P. Bouvier,
with the reverse inscribed "DEVOIR" (Duty) and
"DEVOUEMENT" (Dedication).
Fewer than 600 crosses were awarded before
1939, making it one of the scarcest WW1 French
commemorative medals.
The LNRF ceased operations with the outbreak
of WWII, further enhancing the rarity and
collectability of this decoration.
A must-have for collectors of French military
medals, WW1 humanitarian awards, or rare
European pre-WW2 decorations.
