France: WW2 Commemorative War Cross for
the Free French Volunteers.
Inscribed "FRANCE LIBRE" (Free France).
This military medal was awarded to the
members of the "Free French Volunteers",
who, under the command of General De Gaul,
kept on fighting the Nazis, from abroad, after
the surrender and the occupation of
Metropolitan France.
The medal was established in 1946 and
eligible for the award were French and
Foreign citizens who joined the Free French
Forces prior to 1 Aug. 1943.
The award criteria included the Foreign
Legion, Colonial Forces in Africa who fought
against Rommel's Afrika Korps (DAK) as well
as civilians who served in the territories under
the authority of the French National Committee
in London or in foreign countries prior to 3
June 1943.
