FRANCE: Order of the Academic Palms, Knight's 
Badge.
Rare luxurious example of exceptional quality, 
silver hallmarked (boar's head) & maker marked
(illegible) but most likely by Cartier.
In its box of issue.
The Order was established in 1808 by Emperor 
Napoleon Bonaparte and it was initially aimed 
to honor teachers or professors. In 1866, the 
scope of the award was widened to include 
major contributions to the French national 
education and culture or to the international 
expansion of the French culture.
