FRANCE: WW1 Levant Medal with Clasp "Levant".
In its cardbox of issue.
The medal was established in 1922 to be awarded
to French soldiers and sailors who operated for
the pacification of Syria and Lebanon (Nov. 1918-
Oct. 1921) following the separation of the above
provinces from the Ottoman Empire after the end
of WW1.
The French troops remained in Syria and Lebanon
until 1945 and the medal continued to be awarded
in different versions and with different bars until
1941.
Rare large version (diameter of 36 mm) of the
medal (usually these medals have diameter of
29mm).
Marked "Bronze" on the rim and signed by the
medalist George Lemaire.
