FRANCE: WW1 trench art patriotic ashtray. 
Made of ordnance brass and 3 German 
Mauser rifle cartridges.
The cartridges are lot marked S67 DM 11 17 
(for: 67% Brass, German Ammunition Plant 
Karlsruhe/Berlin, Date 11/1917)
The plate on top of the 3 cartridges is inscribed: 
"In Remembrance of the Heroes of Verdun" and 
presents a French soldier encircled with laurel.
