FRANCE: Medal for Volunteers of the Great War
with clasp "Engage Volontaire" (Voluntary
Commitment) for Voluntary Enlistment.
The medal was instituted right after the end of
WW1.
Despite the fact that this is an unofficial medal
(that was forbidden to be worn on uniform) the
returning to civil life veterans used to wear it with
pride.
In 1935, France finally instituted the Cross of
Volunteers Combatants to reward officially the
Volunteers of the Great War.
There are several versions of this medal, but
this unifacial version, is one of the hardest to
get.
