1st type, Silver Class, with rare "French Red Cross"

The Red Cross Medal of Recompense was instituted
in 3 classes (bronze, silver and gold) in 1940.
This is the 1st type of the award issued until 1950.
This 1st form of the medal, was awarded to participants
of WW2 and to participants of WW1 who served in the
former humanitarian bodies and remained still involved
in the Red Cross cause at the time of the merger.
The French Red Cross was officially established in
1940 following the merger of the Union of French
Women, the French Society of Aiding the Wounded
and the Association of French Women.
The medal is rare.
