FRANCE: WW2 Colonial Medal with "Extreme
Orient" (Far East) Clasp .
This is a scarce locally made example (both the
medal and clasp). Note that the clasp appears
to be only soldered on the right side and to
fasten in the left side on the front.
These medals, despite the fact that they are
crudely made, they are very sought after because
each one is practically a unique example.
The "Extreme Orient" (Far East) clasp was
instituted in 1946 and was awarded to both
military and civilian personnel who fought in
Indochina either against the Japanese forces
(1945) or during the Indochina Colonial Wars
(1945-1954).
The Colonial medal was established in 1893
and was awarded to military personnel who
operated in French protectorates and
colonies.
In total there are established 52 official and
63 unofficial bars for the colonial medal.
The award was replaced by the Overseas
Medal in 1962.
