FRANCE: Colonial medal, itermediate type of
the WW2 era.
Rare, unofficial version of the medal.
The medal comes with the rare "Tunisia 1942-
43" clasp.
The "Tunisia 1942 -43" clasp, was issued to
the Free French Forces that participated in
the Tunisia Campaign (also known as the
Battle of Tunisia) between Axis and Allied
forces (consisted of British Imperial Forces,
including Polish and Greek contingents,
American, Free French troops.
The Free French troops were roughly 7000
men, thus the bar is quite rare.
The battle ended with Axis's complete
defeat. Over 230,000 German and Italian
troops were taken as prisoners of war,
including most of the Afrika Korps.
The Colonial medal was established in 1893
and was awarded to military personnel who
operated in French protectorates and
colonies.
In total there are established 52 official and
63 unofficial bars for the colonial medal.
The award was replaced in 1962 by the
Overseas Medal.
