FRANCE: WW2 Commemorative medal, with
the clasps "Liberation", "France" and the
unofficial clasp "North Africa" (instead of the
official one "Africa".
The clasp "France" was issued for the opera-
tions of the period 3 Sep. 1939 - 25 Jun. 1940.
The clasp "Liberation" was issued for the
operations in Metropolitan France and the
island of Corsica during the period 25 June
1940 - 8 May 1945.
The clasp "Afrique du Nord" as mentioned
above is unofficial - it is the official bar for
the North Africa Medal. The official clasp
"Africa" (Afrique) was issued for operations
between 25 Jun. 1940 and 13 May 1943.
The medal was instituted in 1946 and was
awarded to the members of the French Armed
Forces who participated in the War between 3
Sept. 1939 and 8 May 1945.
Signed by F. Josse and G. Simon, hallmarked
bronze by the Paris Mint.
