FRANCE: WW2 Commemorative medal of the 
French National Federation of Prisoners of 
War (FNCPG). 
This is the rarest variation of the medal with 
the vertical sword on the reverse. 
In its extremely rare box of issue by Roger 
Welter, Paris.
The Federation was officially founded in 1945 
but its origins go back to the era of the 
German Occupation and the channels 
established to help former prisoners of war 
and their families. 
The foundation of the FNCPG is linked mainly 
to the Mouvement National des Prisonniers 
de Guerre et Déportés (MNPGD), a clandestine 
organization of the French Resistance with 
significant contribution to the liberation and 
evacuation of escapees.
