France: WW2 badge of the Order of the Gallic
Francisque.
This Order was established in May 1941 by
Marshal Petain, Head of the Nazi-aligned
Government of Vichy.
The Francisque (actually a labrys)- initially the
personal symbol of Petain - was gradually
used on official documents as the coat of
arms of the Vichy regime.
At least, 2626 individuals received the order
of the Francisque.
The total number of recipients remains
however unknown as the archives listing
all the holders burnt at the end of WW2.
Just like all the Vicy decorations, the Order
and its respective badges were banned
following the end of WW2.
