The Red Cross Medal of Recompense was
instituted in 3 classes (bronze, silver and gold)
in 1940.
This is the 2nd type of the award issued since
1950.
The 1st form of the medal with cut out "CRF"
initials next to each arm of the Cross, as of
this example, was awarded early in the 1950s
to participants of WW2.
The French Red Cross was officially
established in 1940 following the merger of
the Union of French Women, the French
Society of Aiding the Wounded and the
Association of French Women.
The Cross is rare.
