This is the rarest type of the rarest version of 
the French WW2 War Cross, the “London 
Type”, with British type suspender and dated 
"1939 1940" on the reverse side (the more 
"common" (but still scarce) London type is 
undated on the reverse).
These Crosses (but with the green ribbon with 
red stripes) were issued by the French 
Committee of National Liberation – the 
provisional Government of Free France, that 
under General de Gaule continued fighting 
against the Nazis, from the UK, following the 
capitulation of France. The fact that this War 
Cross is of the London type but on Vichy 
Government ribbon, makes the Cross rather 
unique.
