FRANCE: Original WW1-era enameled badge of 
the Ligue de l'Enseignement (Education League).
The League was initially created by the journalist 
Jean Macé, in 1866 to promote public, free, 
compulsory and secular education. 
It dissolved in 1942 and re-founded in 1945 with 
even deeper involvement in secularism and the 
humanities.
