The medal was instituted by Grand Duke
Leopold, in 1849 to be awarded for participa-
tion in the 1849 campaign that managed (with
the help of the Prussian Army) to suppress
the rebellion against his Regime, in Baden.
The Revolution of Baden is considered as
part of the March Revolution, a revolutionary
unrest that gripped almost all of Central
Europe.
The medal was awarded to Officers, NCOs,
soldiers and civilian personnel that was
employed by the Army.
