Imperial Germany – Grand Duchy of Baden:
WW1 Commemorative Field Cross of Honor for the
Great War Veterans.
On the obverse: "For Baden's Honor"
On the reverse: "Field Cross of Honor of Baden"
The Cross was instituted after the end of WW1 (in
1920) by the Veteran (Combatant) Association of
Baden - "Gold" Variation.
A more common "Silver" variation also exists.
The Cross was awarded until 1933 - the year it
was banned by the Nazi Regime.
This is an unofficial award of the period of the
Weimar Republic and just like the majority of
such awards of the period, it had to be privately
purchased by the recipient.
Because of its high quality and workmanship, the
Cross was expensive hence only very few were
actually ordered.
As a consequence this is one of the rarest WW1
Crosses of the Weimar Republic era.
