Commemorative Medal for the Centenary (100th
anniversary) of the Peninsula Campaign during
the Napoleonic Wars (1809).
The medal was instituted in 1909 to be awarded
by Regent Johann Albrecht von Mecklenburg, to
the descendants of the 2300 Officers & Soldiers
of the 17th Hussar Regiment "Totenkopf" (Skull)
of Brunswick who participated in the War of the
Iberian Peninsula (Portugal and Spain, 1807 -
1814).
Obverse: The portrait of Friedrich Wilhelm Duke
of Brunswick (known as the Black Duke), the
founder of the Regiment.
Reverse: The "Totenkopf" (Skull)emblem of the
Regiment.
The medal is rare.
