as Commemorative War Medal of 1840. 
The medal was instituted in 1840 and was 
awarded for Loyal Wartime Services to the 
participants of the campaigns during the 
period 1780-1866. 
In detail:
- Campaigns of 1780 - 1815 (Napoleonic Wars), 
- Campaigns of 1848 - 1849 (Revolutions of the 
German States) and 
- Campaigns of 1866 (German Civil War). 
It is struck on canon bronze and it was 
discontinued in 1866.
