- YPERN (Battles of Ypres, Oct. 16 - Oct. 02, 1918)
- Flandernsschlacht 1917 (3rd Battle of Flanders/
Battle of Passchendaele, Jul. 31, 1917 – Nov. 10,
1917)
- Durchbruchschlacht (Breakthrough) 1918 (Series
of 5 German Offensive Operations Mar. 21 - Ju. 17.,
1918).
The Cross was instituted in 1921 as an unofficial
veteran award.
Just like the majority of the awards of the Weimar
Republic, only the diploma was actually issued.
The Cross and the respective clasps had to be
purchased privately by the recipients.
Only roughly 30.000 Crosses were authorized.
