The Cross was established by Duke Friedrich 
Franz II, in 1868, in 3 classes (for 21, 15 and 9 
years of military service, with the years of service 
during war time counting double).
- Bronze Commemorative Medal for Combatants, 
for the Victory against France during the Franco-
Prussian War of 1870-1871. 
Privately made example of the medal without the 
inscription: "From Captured Cannons" on the rim. 
Obverse side: "Dem siegreichen Heeres" (To the 
Victorious Army).
Reverse: The Iron Cross and the years 1870 1871.
