Veterans Association Commemorative Medal
for the death of Kaiser Friedrich III (Frederick
III) in 1888.
Kaiser Freidrich III succeeded his father
Wilhelm I on 9 Mar. 1888.
He was suffering however from cancer of the
larynx and he died on 15 Jun. 1888, aged 56,
following unsuccessful medical treatment for
his condition. Kaiser Freidrich III reigned for
just 99 days.
Obverse: The portrait of Kaiser Friedrich with
the inscription "Friedrich, German Emperor
and King of Prussia".
Reverse: "Learn to Suffer Without
Complaining".
The year 1888 is a significant year for the
German history, known as the "Year of the 3
Kaisers", due to the fact that it was marked
by the deaths of 2 Kaisers, leading to the
rapid succession of 3 Emperors within a single
year (Kaiser Wilhelm I, Kaiser Friedrich III and
Kaiser Wilhelm II who reigned until the end of
WW1).
