Imperial Germany - Duchy of Saxe - Altenburg:
WW1 Bravery Medal.
Early example in bronze.
The medal was instituted, by Duke Ernst II, in 1915

The medal was originally produced in bronze, in
1916 it was made of coppered zinc and in 1918 in
zinc as copper was reserved for the war effort.
Only 520 medals were issued in bronze (from a
total of 11900 that were issued since its institution).
