Regimental Cross of Honor with clasp of the 3rd
Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment, “Prince Karl
of Bavaria”.
Inscribed: “Fur Konig und Vaterland” (For King
and Country) & "In Treue Fest" (Steadfast in
Loyalty).
These Crosses were awarded to the Bavarian
Regiments roughly about the year 1900.
The 3rd Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment was
formed in 1698 as Grenadier-Guard Regimen of
Kurpfalz.
It participated in the Wars of Spanish & Austrian
Succession, the Seven Year War, the Napoleonic
Wars, the German Civil War of 1866, the Franco–
Prussian War of 1870.
During WW1 it served on both the Western and the
Eastern Front (Battle of the Somme, Breakthrough
at Gorlice-Tarnow, Danube Campaign, Battle of
Verdun, Brusilov's Offensive, Campaign of the
Carpathian Mountains, Battles of Alsace, Aisne,
Flanders and the German Offensive in 1918).
The Regiment lost more than 5000 men between
1914 and 1918.
Following the Armistice it returned to Bavaria and
was disbanded in Augsburg on 13 Dec. 1918.
