Honor Decoration of Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig -
Medal for Loyal Service (Für Treue Dienste).
The medal was instituted in 1843 by Grand Duke
Ludwig III but the first award was made in 1949
by Ludwig III. It was awarded until 1918 bearing
the portrait of the respective Grand Duke of the
period of issue (Ludwig III, Ludwig IV or Enrst
Ludwig).
This example with the head of Ernst Ludwig was
issued since 1894 up until 1918 and with this
type of ribbon since 1902.
This is an early example, in silver, issued until
1917. Since 1918 the medals issued were made
of silvered zinc.
The medal is scarce.
