WW1 Cross for Distinction in War, 2nd Class, on
combatants ribbon.
Inscribed: Tapfer und Treu - Brave and Loyal.
The medal was instituted, in 1 class, by Grand
Duke Friedrich Wilhelm in 1871 and was issued
for bravery to Officers, NCOs and Soldiers during
the Franco - Prussian War.
The Cross was revived, this time in 2 classes, by
Grand Duke Adolph Friedrich VI, in 1914, in this
form, with the cipher of Adolph Friedrich and
the addition of the year "1914".
It was awarded to combatants and to non
combatants (on different ribbons) for bravery
and the last award took place in 1924.
In total 8131 crosses were awarded.
