Imperial Germany - Grand Duchy of Oldenburg:
War Merit Medal, 1916 in Iron.
The medal was established in 196, by Grand Duke
Friedrich August to be awarded, initially, to the
women (medics, nurses, fund collectors etc) who
were assisting with the care of the wounded.
Condition for the award was a minimum of 1 year
of working in the patriotic interest and at least 15
years of age.
In 1917 the conditions for the award changed, to
include also women and men without distinction
of rank, who offered distinguished services to
the war industry.
Maker marked: RK (Richard Knauer) on female
ribbon.
The medal is rare.
